Installing ClockworkMod on the Huawei U8800 / Ideos X5

ClockworkMod is a must for anyone running an Android Powered Phone or Tablet. Its a great safety net for when you start Installing Custom ROMs and/or Themes.

ClockworkMod allows you to:

Install Custom ROMs and Themes (from .zip files)Wipe Data / Factory ResetWipe Cache PartitionBackup and Restore Current Partitions (ROM)Clear Battery StatsWipe Dalvik CachePartition SD CardFix File Permissions

Once installed ClockworkMod instantly adds the above features to your device, which to me are essential.

Installing ClockworkMod on the Huawei U8800 / Ideos X5:

Download ClockworkMod Recovery 4.0.0.5 – Download Here.Power on your U8800 while holding the VOL+ and VOL- buttons, your screen should turn Pink or Similar Colour.Plug the phone into your computer, after a minute or so you should see a new disk drive in My Computer.Browse the new disk drive on your computer and look for a file called recovery.img, you need to back this up to a safe place.Extract the new recovery.img file you downloaded in the first step and replace the existing one which you have found.Once complete you will need to remove the battery from your phone to turn it off.Congratulations you should now have ClockworkMod installed on your Huawei U8800 / Ideos X5, to load ClockworkMod you simply need to hold VOL+ while powering on the phone.

The first thing I would do in ClockworkMod is create a backup (you need an SD Card for this) then exit ClockworkMod, your phone will load as normal.

You now have the freedom to install Custom ROMs and Themes, just remember to backup in ClockworkMod before installing anything new.

Android Theme – Black Magic for Huawei U8800 / Ideos X5

Well I have had an Android Powered phone since October last year and since then it has been a very steep learning curve when it comes to Rooting, Flashing, Unlocking and all the other modifications you can do with Android Devices.

I thought I would have a go at creating my own Android Theme for the ROM I am currently using which is FLB Custom ROM, which seems to be the most stable for my device.

To try this theme you will need to have a Huawei U8800 / Ideos X5 with ClockworkMod installed. I used the files from the B137 Firmware (Android 2.2.2) to create the theme, but the theme should work with all 2.2 ROMs for the Huawei U8800 / Ideos X5. Just make sure you backup in ClockworkMod before installing this theme.

Theme’s Features:
- HTC Sense Style Notification Area
- Circle Battery Mod
- Sense Style Notification Bar Icons
- Carrier Logo Changed to White
- Clock Changed to White
- Gingerbread Style Launcher
- Bottom Popup Menu Text Colour Changed

Installing Theme:
- Copy Downloaded .zip file to Root of SD Card
- Boot into ClockworkMod (Tested with v4.0.0.5)
- Before you do anything else perform a Backup
- Choose Install Zip from SD Card
- Locate the Themes zip File and Install
- (optional) Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache
- Reboot and Enjoy
