How to use FaceTime over 3G on your iPhone 4

One of the great new features of the iPhone 4 is the ability to video call using FaceTime. The down side to FaceTime is the fact you can only use it if you are connected to a WiFi network.

This is the way Apple wants it to work, but there is now a way to override this to allow you to use FaceTime over 3G, it’s easy enough to setup too but it does involve you Jailbreaking your iPhone.

Just a quick reminder that if you Jailbreak your iPhone you will void your warranty, but if you still want to use FaceTime over 3G continue reading.

Using FaceTime over 3G Setup Instructions:

Firstly you need to Jailbreak your iPhone 4.You then need to download the Cydia app called My3G, it will cost you $3.99 but worth every penny. The My3G app will make your iPhone believe it is on Wi-Fi even when it’s using 3G.Use FaceTime as normal from any location, even if WiFi is not available.

It really is as simple as that, but the one thing you have to remember is your monthly download limit over 3G which most phone operators have in place.

So just to give you rough idea of how much of your data allowance you will use remember the following……..a 5 minute FaceTime call with lots of movement” uses about 14.7 megabytes of data, or about three megabytes per minute.

I hope this has helped iPhone 4 users get a little more out of FaceTime, if you have any questions or comments please post them below.
