So yesterday my gf picked up a Wii just out of the blue lol while at the mall. Anyways we picked up a 2gb kingston SD card and brought it home.

I took a read through [Only Registered Members May View Links| Click here to register]

Modded the Wii fine, the hardest part for me was getting the cursors to move as i couldnt understand some of the terminology.

So then today I loaded up the USB Loader to run games of a Hard drive as she tends to scratch discs really easy. Done and simple. Only issue she had is i tried putting in a burned game and it said Disc Read Error 1167..

Now my question is, I disabled the Auto Online Updates like stated in the tutorial up there I read. But my can the Wii go online at all now? She's currently on 4.1U.

I also disabled Wii Connect24.. But im just not quite sure what the system can and cant do now due to the mod. Is there even any point to updating to 4.3?

I followed that tutorial step by step and did what it said. backed up Nand and what not.

If you mean play games online, you should be fine.
As fat as updating, there's no need to update past 4.1. 4.2 and 4.3 were only released to block homebrew. No point in updating.

Now so shes fine with enabling the Wii Connect24 and what not? Just not perform any System Updates? Like i know when i tried accessing the News Channel it said something about not having an update.

Since you have the block updates enabled, you should be alright to do so. However, it's just not usually recommended to do so after you modded it.
but if you feel like somebody won't accidentally update it, I suppose you will be fine.

the wii runs on ios's and has a system menu
updates have updated or new ios's and system menu versions (the newer ones only try to block homebrew)
if you insert a game and it asks for an update, it'll wipe out your softmod (at least most of it), that's why blocking updates is important

in short, updates only add more features (sometimes) and block homebrew

Perfect makes sense! So im guessing does that mean you technically can't play new games that try and push updates through a disc? Sort of like certain Xbox360 games..

you don't have the ios that the game runs on. All you need to do is install that ios and there you go

if you have the game on a hard drive, then the game runs under a cIOS, so if a black screen there, the game probably needs to run under a specific cIOS (possibly one with a certain base ios(s))

Ah okay that clears it up then! Im guessing there is probably a place that states what iOS a game is running on?

And im guessing its the same with the games run off a hdd? Id just have to find the right cIOS?

if a new game comes out, and people are having problems running it, look in their threads to see what they did/used to fix the problem
[Only Registered Members May View Links| Click here to register] a thread that lists games and the ios's they use
