Why Wii's Are Still Hard to Find

With the unveiling of the Nintendo Wii in late 2006, many consumers and analysts believed that the console would be amply available for the Christmas/Holiday season. As we all know that wasn't the case. As a surprise, the interest for the Wii console has spiked since inception and continues to this day as a rare item for the new holiday season. The question remains as to why the hard-to-find Nintendo Wii console remains allusive is based on many factors.

The simple popularity for the Wii has increased demand for the product. The Wii's strength lies on its simplicity and affordability of the console. If you compare prices, the PS3 and the Xbox run from at least $300. Some of these consoles could price a staggering tag of $600. A base price for Wii is a mere $250.

The Wii console, being the lowest priced new system, has caused parents and teens to carefully weigh value in their purchases. Does a cheaper system necessarily mean that it's a cheap experience? It certainly does not appear to be so for the millions who bought a Wii console. The very testament that the Wii surpasses all new system consoles shows tremendous interest in the product.

What also makes the Wii unique is the unconventional controllers. For generations, video game addicts grew up with the typical hand-held controller that allowed movement from the left-right-up-down buttons. Some argued that the traditional controllers contributed to carpel tunnel. But with the new Wii controllers, controllers like nun chucks allow for hand and arm motions as opposed to thumb motion. Think of using the Wii nunchuck as a fishing rod while allowing the pitching motion to simulate an actual fishing motion. Or, just imagine using the wireless controller to hit a tennis ball, while the vibration simulates the ball hitting a racquet.

Interestingly, there are blogs and testimonials out there claiming that Wii has benefited them in weight loss. In fact, there are plenty of Wii weight loss programs out there can claim to make people lose weight. As one can see, the Wii is very different and it has some attractive qualities.

Also, the surprising demand for the Wii has caused a logistical problem. The company, Nintendo, was not ready for the unprecedented demand for the product. As such, the logistical challenges to find the right parts for the Wii console has caused it to be back ordered and in shortage. Moreover, the problem grows exponentially when parts for the motion detectors are available simply because interest for these parts was not there until the advent of the Wii console.

Nonetheless, a shopper can still find Wii's without waiting at the stores for delivery. Because the Wii console is in great demand, people have turned to auction sites to buy Wii's.
